SAWs Virginia, an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds, to ADA standards, custom designed wheelchair ramps for impoverished persons of all ages with long-term, ambulatory disabilities who cannot afford one on their own at no cost to them. Our goal is to restore their freedom, independence and dignity allowing them to access medical services more easily, improve the safety of their home, reconnect with their community and age-in-place. We serve all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or creed with priority given to veterans and first responders.

Love the work you’ve done for me and my wife.

I don’t know who’s the happiest me or her.

Danny B.

The need for ramps is great in our community. But due to the high unemployment rate among the disabled, there are thousands of people who are disconnected from the community for lack of a wheelchair ramp or the resources to acquire one. More than 25,000 people in the surrounding four counties could potentially qualify for one of our ramps. A SAWs ramp is a transformative gift.

This is fantastic! It changes everything.

Clifton P.

  • The design is simple and allows people from teens to seniors to participate.

  • If you can hold a drill, you can do this work!

  • Ramps are preassembled indoors in a few hours and can be installed in a single day.

  • Volunteers see the impact of their effort at the end of each ramp.

  • It is a powerful team building event for youth, men’s and women’s groups, social clubs or businesses.

My experience with SAWs was a great blessing for me right from the beginning to the end.

Marie M.
